SOME DAYS YOU HAVE TO WONDER

I'm a big fan of giving an employee the chance to succeed and grow and not have to look over their shoulder but at some point enough is enough. I'm helping a client where there is no functional leader and everyone works in their silos.

The ownership of the company has said for generations "not to worry- things will work out" and consequently people never get fired. today, this company is under price pressure from its customers and everyone knows that things and processes and responsibilities and accountability need to change. But nobody is willing to take the step of coming forward and saying "we're going to do this and I don't care what anyone says" It's amazing to have sat in the leadership meeting and see 8 high powered people unwilling to take the risk and lead and change.

My response at the meeting (I was asked to come in and propose how to fix their processes) was "when your business blows up in your face and your company is facing collapse, I promise to be there to help you pick up the pieces and I won't say I told you so" I wasn't sure if I was raising kids at the moment or helping a client but the room sure got real quiet and finished in a hurry.
