WHY SUPPLY CHAIN CASE COMPETITIONS MATTER

Quite simply, they can get you a job. It happened again this weekend. I was facilitating a case competition using The Fresh Connection and after the finals, went over to one of the teams that made it to the finals to congratulate them. Already in front of me was a talent recruiter for a company, meeting with the team members and their faculty advisor. In talking to the recruiter with my colleague, Chris Good, she said that last year she had approached members of the school team last year shortly after the competition and was dismayed to find out they had already taken offers. She said she was impressed with the competition and was not going to let the opportunity slip by again. This is probably the third time in the last 18-24 months where The Fresh Connection and it being played by a student, has impacted their getting into a supply chain position. Chris and I probed further and learned that what the recruiter liked most about the simulation, was that students could demonstrate they really knew supply chain management and apply what they learned.

As part of my commitment to the students of this year's competition, I have promised to create and deliver to them, a debrief of their teams performance as well as the financial results from the simulation, along with a chart showing the alignment of their decisions. The debrief will be in a format that they can utilize in their search to enter the supply chain field and demonstrate as well, their knowledge of supply chain management. Dozens of students came up to me after the competition wanting to let me know they were excited to get this debrief report, and how fast they could get it as they saw it integral to their efforts getting started int heir careers.

If something like this is of interest to you, let me know and I'd be happy to share with you what these debriefs look like. As well, if this is something you want to do for yourself, let me know, I'm always willing to set up an open enrollment event so you can play the simulation and get your own debrief created on your performance.
